Finished Adam's scarf!!

Here it is. Turned out to be longer than Adam is (check out the other pictures on Flickr), almost 4 feet long. Did the whole thing in seed stitch, and put a slit in it so it stays tied. Used 1 skein of Lion's Brand Chenille, Adam picked the color (green is his favorite). Next project is to do a cute cardigan for Dova from cousin (if Doug's cousin's daughter-in-law is still considered to be a cousin) Kristi's pattern.

Roadcasting: A Potential Mesh Network Killer App

This roadcasting idea sounds really cool. It is really great to have your whole music library on your iPod, but if you solely listen to that, you will never hear any new stuff, so you have to resort to the radio. Sure you can subscribe to podcasts, but it is hard to find the right ones and not quite as easy as flipping the radio dial. Plus podcasts are better for talk, and I usually fast forward through most of the songs. Roadcasting would be great because you can listen to other people's playlists who have the same taste and get to hear new stuff, without a DJ telling you to like it. I wonder how far the transmissions will go. Do you have to be driving in the same direction? 2010? Can I wait that long?

New blog year, new look

I was getting tired of all those dots, plus the fact that the margins on the postings were not resizable, so I went with a different format. Maybe by next year I will have a decent name as well. Let me know if you like it!

I finally figured out who Adam Curry was

After listening to Mr. Podcast himself for a while, on his Daily Source Code podcast, I finally figured out who Adam Curry was. I even peeked at his Flikr pictures and that didn't even jog my memory. His name was vaguely familiar, but when he mentioned that he had been a celebrity since being a teenager, I thought, do I know this guy? Finally it dawned on me that he was the VJ on MTV in the late 80's, when I was addictied to MTV. Personally, I loved Martha Quinn, and thought Adam was a bit full of himself (and his hair!). I asked Doug if he remembered Adam Curry, the VJ on MTV, and he replied "The black guy?", and I said no, the blond guy with the big hair. This conversation happened twice, too funny. Couldn't find the guy Doug was talking about on Google, for the next time we have this conversation.

NPR : Podcasting

Please put in a plug for NPR and podcasting. They recently nixed their pay-for-dowload deal (how non-public radio like) with Audible and are thinking about podcasts. Comment here!! I would love to see two of my favorite things come together!

One year anniversary!

Woo woo, my blog is one year old!! What a blast. Hope someone is enjoying it!

9-11 Commission Hearings

I had listened to a bunch of the 9-11 Commission Hearings offered by Audible last October. Tried to stick with the interesting interviews. Some were extremely B-O-R-I-N-G, and especially some of the bonehead questions. Duh, everything is clear with 20-20 hindsight. Of course nobody in their wildest dreams imagined a scenario with jumbo jets flying into both buildings of the World Trade Center. Rudy Giuliani was excellent, especially his recounting of his own day. You can feel the rumbling, the dust, the panic and the leadership all in through his words.

The most scathing report came from Richard Clarke, former White House terrorism adviser. The interviewers were shocked that he would try to spin things so that the administration wouldn't look bad. He summed that up perfectly with, "I don't think it's a question of morality at all, it's a question of politics."

The interesting thing about these Audible broadcasts is that they are totally unedited. There were a few times that protesters (how did they get in?) would start shouting over the speakers. It is kind of hard to discern what they are saying but the outbursts are something like "They killed my son!" and "Our government has given 3 million dollars to fund Osama." It really disrupted the hearings and it took security a good 2 minutes before escorting them out. Cool to hear that stuff, it certainly is not included in the Commission Reports.
