TEN things I love about my job

OK, I've been too down on my job so here is a positive list to remind myself how great it is.

  1. 14 minutes from home: I simply can't beat that unless I take a 85% paycut and work at Hannaford's. Plus this allows me to bring Adam to Gymnastics.
  2. Excellent pay: It is worth being a manager for this pay.
  3. C#: What a beautiful language.
  4. UI: There is nothing that I enjoy more in programming than making awesome user inteface.
  5. Good boss: He is nice as can be and leaves me alone (although I don't think he quite appreciates what I do yet).
  6. Tom: He brought me in and continues to be a top notch friend (when he is around). Plus he is good to work with.
  7. The gym: You can't beat $7/month and 7 minutes from work.
  8. Shopping: Tax free shopping in NH is about 10-15 min away.
  9. $5 chair massages 3 times a month.
  10. Cube next to the window with a view of the sunset.

Yes, it is always good to remind ourselves of the good things in life. Otherwise we feel entitled and expect them.

In the words of Joni Mitchell in "Big Yellow Taxi": (am I dating myself??

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey...and all your positive job points are things that most of us would be thrilled to have...so I think you have a keeper! :-)

Unfortunately, the list from my last job would be twice as long, and I knew that it was a dream job (even before it was gone, and even more so now that it's gone too). But I'm committed to moving forward and not dwelling on the past!

I know what you mean...I was 18 years old at one point (seems like yesterday in many ways), and I was able to run about 20 miles.

That's hardly a brag because I now have a hip problem and have to admit I'm not sure I could run a mile right now....thankfully, walking/hiking is a little different

Yea, work doesn't always fit the declining model that age related things do, so it might not be the best parallel.

But I do believe that being positive is always helpful. (not always the way I am...but the way I try to be)

Always moving forward and only keeping those good memories of the past is a wise thing.

I really love programming languages and I'm using C# a lot, but I just don't get excited over C#. 2005 is MUCH better. 2002, 2003 was so bad it's gonna take a while to change my mind.

Hey...and now the force multiplier of more open internet access....viola, you have something close to utopia!

I came back here to this post to remind myself to think positively about my own job right now.

It's not so much that it is bad....or that the environent is difficult, but rather the rumor mill is running wild, and with all the reorganization going on (from the very top) there is a lot of talk of downsizing. (and with significant numbers too)

So perhaps I need to do a sort of copy-cat post in my journal...to get my mindset placed squarely in the right mindset...that is to be thankful for what I have, and not dissatisfied because I don't have everything I desire.
