For the last ten years, Doug and I have gone to the Cliffside Inn in Newport, Rhode Island in the off season for a romantic getaway. The first year we went in 1999, we were engaged and escaped for a mini-honeymoon before the wedding. Since then, we've managed to come back nine times, in between nursing babies. The kids have settled down to a yearly visit from both grandmas so that we can continue our tradition. Over the years, we've gotten to know the owner and this year, we were offered a complimentary bottle of Champagne. What a beautiful spread!
It is always wonderful to have some quiet time with Doug, but it is always too short. Coming back home is often harsh and chaotic, but we can always revisit through photos and journal entries.
