I remember when McDonald's came out with the Happy Meal 30 years ago. As a big kid at twelve years old, I didn't want anything to do with them. I had graduated from a cheeseburger to a Big Mac at age ten, and there was no turning back (you know, two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun). But in my twenties, I realized that eating large burgers at McDonald's wasn't such a great idea, so I went back to cheeseburgers. Since the Happy Meal had a cheeseburger, small fries and a drink, it was a more economical way to go. But then I became hooked on the toys. I was a kid all over again! I still have a bin of McDonald's Happy Meal toys in my office which are off limits to my kids. And when the Teenie Beanie Babies came out, I meticulously collected them and kept them in the bags. They are still in the attic and my kids have no idea that I have them!
At BlogHer this year, I was one of the lucky winners of the collection of 30 Teeny Beanie Babies released in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Happy Meal. I couldn't keep these cuties from my kids, so I promised to split them up when we got home. The split went 14 for Adam, 14 for Dova and 2 for me. Oh well! Here they are with all thirty Teenie Beanie Babies.
Adam snagged all three bears, Streamers, Thirty and Celebration.
Dova's favorites were Clipper the dolphin and Quackly the duck.
Yammy the cat and Radish the dog made a cute pair.
And there's nothing stinky about Skunkers the skunk.
I ended up with Woolsy the lamb and Grimace the taste bud(!?!). Check out all the festivities at the Happy Meal Birthday site.
