Photo Hunters - Different, Time

REI Mt. Everest

In the REI flagship store in Seattle, Washington, there are giant "swiss army watch" clocks hanging around the perimeter of the store showing the different time zones of the world. I was fascinated by the fact that Nepal time was 45 minutes different from the world clock (UTC+5:45 to be exact), where time zones is usually differ by hour increments. I've always liked Nepal for being "different". For extra credit in high school history, I sewed a version of their flag because it wasn't the traditional rectangle. Let's just say there was some swearing along the lines of "I'm no Betsy Ross!" while making it.

Edited to add (May 2, 2008): OK, I couldn't find a better photo for the "time" theme, so I am reposting this "different" photo. Really, it fits much better for this week!

There are some other countries being different in this respect. India (30 min. off) and now Venezuela too...

Have a great week.

There are a few half hour times zones around but I did not know there was a 45 minute one. Now that would be a real pain! Have a great weekend.

Nepal is unique in so many things, our Flag meaning is the blue border denotes peace and harmony that has been prevalent in the country since the age of Gautama Buddha, who was born in Nepal. The crimson color is Nepal's national color, and it indicates the brave spirit of the Nepalese people. The two triangles symbolize the Himalaya Mountains and represent the two major religions, Hinduism and Buddhism. The depiction of celestial bodies represents permanence, the hope that Nepal will last as long as the sun and the moon. The moon symbolizes that the Nepalese are soothing and calm, while the sun symbolizes fierce resolve. The moon also symbolizes the shades and the cool weather of the Himalayas, whereas the sun symbolizes the heat and the high temperature at the lower part (Tarai) of Nepal.
thanks for being liked Nepal as different.

That's one large watch. I, too, find it odd for time to be off in odd increments!

I never realized that those clocks were "Swiss Army watches". I will have to take a good look next time I am there, which will probably be next weekend.

I also did not know that Nepal was 45 minutes off. I do know that India is a half hour off. They would be in two time zones, so they split the difference wo that the whole country would be on the same time.
